What is with Radiofrequency denervation and Pulsed Radiofrequency?

Radiofrequency is a thermal energy that that can be used as pulsed and thermal manner either to neuromodulate the sensory nerves or denervate them so the painimpulses will not pass through and therefore the pain will not be felt. The nerve endings grow back , but it takes 6-12 months, so the pain relief is much longer. The RF can be repeated. It will not cause any other effects related to nerves, numbness, muscle weakness etc. Before doing RF, diagnostic blocks with local anaesthesia are done and if there is more that 50% relief of pain that confirms the diagnosis and is a guide to go ahead with RF as the results will be positive. The option of RF is usually considered when conservative and symptomatic treatments have been used and failed to provide satisfactory pain relief. Radiofrequency in both forms pulsed and thermal provides precise and controllable neuromodulation and denervation.
The RF has advantage over surgery or any other form of denervation in that it is More selective and cause much fewer complications. Radiofrequency can be used to treat the pain literally from the head to thetoes. It is best suited to target small unmyelinated nerves.

What are the common conditions where we can use RF?

LOWER BACK PAIN RELATED TO FACET JOINTS OF THE SPINE-

30% of lower back pain is caused by facet joints. They also get stressed after an injury, in sports men, old age due to degenerative arthritis even though your MRI shows everything is hale and hearty.

NECK AND MID BACK PAIN RELATED TO FACET JOINTS OF THE SPINE— 40% of neck and mid back pain is caused by facet joints, accidents with whiplash injury, professionals belonging to computer field and having long hours of desk job tend to strain them more, and also in the aging population due to arthritis and degeneration of disc.

LOWER BACK PAIN RELATED TO SACROILIAC JOINTS. Evidence states 10 to 15 percent of your low back pain is due to a dysfunctional Sacro-illiac joint , it mimics disc pain to an extent with most of the pains radiation upto the buttock, thigh or knee.

HEADACHES- Pain in the back of head related to occipital neuralgia.

REFLEX SYMPATHETIC DYSTROPHY (RSD) OR CRPS— RF of sympathetic chain will provide Longer relief of pain

Anterior Cutaneous Nerve Entrapment Syndrome andinguinodynia: Usually after hernia surgery, high abdominal tone free nerve endings get entrapped and RF is a useful measure to get rid of your painful episodes.

Trigeminal Neuralgia: Excellent results to the tune of more than 90% have been achieved with use of RF with effects lasting more than 5 years.

Refractory Knee And HIP PAIN: For neuropathic knee pain and persistent knee pains post implants we can help you with various modalities to get your pains under control.

Side Effects

These procedures in a trained and safe hand are relatively very safe and free of any major side effects and that adds to the advantage of these procedures. Few side effects are burning pain which can persist for few days, dysaestheisc symptoms in rare cases.

SPECIALIZED RADIOFREQUENCY PROCEDURES

Trigeminal radiofrequency denervation for Trigeminal Neuralgia Genicular Nerve Branch Blocks- For Knee and HIP PAINS Pulsed radiofrequency neuromodulation for ABDOMINAL PAINS Pulsed DRG(DORALS ROOT GANGLION) modulation for Disc pain and knee pains.
